As home affordability slides in the Dallas-Forth Worth area, some in the residential real estate sector are pointing to what they see as a way to moderate the price escalation that’s dimming low to middle-income earners’ hopes of buying a house.

Widely varying building and land-use codes among the many cities in North Texas and excessive regulation are unnecessarily adding to the cost and complicating homebuilding and the development of neighborhoods, communities and lots, housing sector experts say. Cities, however, disagree. Could standardization of building-related ordinances and codes be the answer?
